BetRegal will now sponsor the Canadian PGA Championships

It’s been a while since we have had some exciting news in the world of Canadian professional golf. This past summer a landmark deal was signed by the Canadian PGA Championships and BetRegal. The new deal will now see BetRegal become the official sponsor of Canada’s PGA Championships tour. The tour will still be presented by TaylorMade Golf and Adidas Golf. This deal will be in effect for next three years.

Following the news of a recent decision by the Canadian senate to approve Bill C-218 to legalize single-event sports betting in Canada allowed for the new deal with BetRegal and the Canadian PGA Championships to come together. The new deal will also mark BetRegal’s second big deal. They recently also signed on to officially sponsor the Canadian Football League (CFL).

A little more about the deal

Recently the president of PGA of Canada Teejay Alderdice was quoted as saying the following. “Today is a historical day for the PGA of Canada, our 3,700 Members and Canadian golf industry as a whole. With the sports betting landscape evolving in Canada, we have been thoughtful with our strategy and are excited to add a Canadian gaming partner that will elevate the PGA Championship of Canada presented by TaylorMade Golf and adidas Golf and present new and exciting opportunities for our members and the millions of golfers they interact with on a daily basis”

The first PGA event to be sponsored by BetRegal was held last August in the Vieux Village in Bromont Quebec on the 7th of August. BetRegal is now looking forward to assisting the PGA association as they gear up to celebrate their 100th event in Canada. BetRegal’s CEO Michale Mirti was extremely excited about the news and was recently quoted as saying: “PGA of Canada is one of the most well-respected sports organizations in the country and the BetRegal team is excited to bring the partnership to life in compelling ways for fans. This is an important partnership for us as we look to educate Canadians about online gaming and set the groundwork for our Canadian operations”.

A little history about the Canadian PGA

The Canadian PGA Championships was initially played back in 1912. This is considered one of the oldest and longest running tournaments in Canada. Since then, many legendary names have won the popular tournament such as Lee Trevino, Lanny Wadkins and Dan Halldorson. Many more names will be added to the list as the tournament continues in the years to come.

It’s not everyday you get to celebrate your 100th anniversary and BetRegal appreciates the weight behind this.

Since BetRegal began its initial sponsorship of the event there have been a few events that have taken place. The first event they sponsored the BetRegal PGA Championships of Canada was held between August 3rd to the 7th. The contest was hard fought between 59 players. The tournament was a tight race. The top three finalists were Sang Hwa Lee, Kevin Stinson and Riley Fleming. In the end there could only be one lucky winner. Riley Fleming took the tournament with a total to par gross of -25 strokes. Only 3 stokes less than Kevin Stinson and 5 strokes less than Sang Hwa Lee.

BetRegal will now be looking forward to the next tournament to be held at the end of October. They are hoping for another exciting and tight-knit tournament like the first one they sponsored at the start of August.
